As would be expected in a region where water means life, the Pinctada Resort & Spa relies heavily on painstaking water management. A state of the art solar heating system is the primary source of instantaneous hot water, designed to minimize energy consumption. The resort’s design features access to natural light throughout, and an energy-efficient intelligent lighting system which boasts daylight harvesting technology. The centralized energy management system also manages the air conditioning and links to the central reservation system to reduce energy consumption and hence the resort’s carbon footprint. In keeping with the climate, landscaping in association with Jamie Durie’s Patio Landscape Architecture and Design features mainly indigenous flora that requires minimal water and upkeep. This is interspersed with the occasional exotic planting for colour or contrast.
